Diocesan Museum – Pia Almoina

The Casa de la Pia Almoina was one of the most important charitable entities that the city of Barcelona had during the Middle Ages. The institution received and cared for 300 poor and sick people daily.

The House is made up of the Gothic building from the 16th century. XV with main façade in Plaza de la Seu and the 16th century extension. XVI, of Renaissance style, attached to the previous structure.

Apart from the clear historical importance of the complex, it also has great archaeological relevance for having integrated part of the 17th century walls into the building. I – III d. C. of the Roman Barcino.

The building has three floors with numerous exhibition rooms and museum use. The upper floor becomes a privileged space as a multifunctional area.
